Leadership Council on Legal Diversity

Robert Grey has served as the President of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity since 2012. He has overseen the establishment and growth of LCLD, an organization of general counsel and managing partners committed to ensuring all talent thrives with the ultimate goal of building a more equitable and diverse legal profession.

Prior to his current position, Robert was a partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, where he served as Vice Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and represented businesses in administrative, regulatory, and legislative matters. He is currently a member of the McCammon Mediation Group.

In 2010, Robert was appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the Board of the Legal Services Corporation, the nation’s largest provider of civil legal assistance, on which he still serves.

From 1998 to 2002, Robert served as chair of the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates. He was elected President of the ABA in 2004, the second African American to hold the position, and was elected chair of the ABA House in 1998, the first person of color to serve in that role.

During his term as president of the ABA, Robert worked to improve the nation’s justice system by launching the America Jury Project, which led to the adoption of the ABA Principles for Juries and Jury Trials, a model document that reflects the demands of contemporary trials.

Robert received his B.S. in 1973 from Virginia Commonwealth University and his J.D. in 1976 from Washington and Lee University, where he served on the Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2014.
